MS Research Day 2019

Join us at the Multiple Sclerosis Research Day and hear about the latest development in MS research happening nationally and internationally.

The New Zealand Multiple Sclerosis Research Trust is delighted to host MS Research Day 2019 in conjunction with MS Auckland. The event will cover a range of stimulating topics relevant to people with MS, their families, and their support networks. With a line-up of highly qualified speakers, we expect a sell-out crowd.

Keynote Speakers:

Dr. Suzi Claflin, a Research Fellow from Menzies Institute of Research at the University of Tasmania, will present the findings of COMPANZ, a recent comparative study between New Zealand and Australia. She will speak on the outcomes and impact of access to disease-modifying treatments (DMTs). Dr. Claflin will also present on research by Menzies Institute of Research that looks at the short- and long-term efficacy of DMT use.

Dr. Ernie Willoughby, Neurologist at Auckland DHB and NZMSRT Trustee, will present the latest on global MS research from the 2019 European Conference on Treatment and Research into Multiple Sclerosis (ECTRIMS). Recently held in Stockholm and attended by more than 9,000 MS researchers and clinicians, ECTRIMS focused on the latest advances in the treatment and understanding of MS. Dr. Willoughby will share his learnings from the conference.

In addition, a range of New Zealand-based researchers will present on their current projects:

• • MS and Pregnancy: insights from new mothers with MS used to shape improvements for future maternity services: Fiona d’Young – MS Nurse, Auckland DHB
  • New insights to understand you, your genes, MS and its complications: Dr. Justin O’Sullivan (PhD) – Associate Professor and Associate Director for Research at the Liggins Institute, University of Auckland
  • MS and the blood brain barrier: Dr. Scott Graham – Senior Lecturer and Senior Research Fellow at University of Auckland
  • Building self-efficacy in exercise and ultimate MS Management: Gilly Davy – Neurophysiotherapist, Connect Neurophysiotherapy
